It was a pleasant surprise to hear from Eric DeRivera of West Boylston, MA, that he'd had the same idea and had composed a complete set of graphics files showing year-by-year railroad development for New England up to 1930. The white-haired gentleman at the desk said they did not have anything written about the ADDISON RAILROAD. C. the Rutland drove iron by the most direct route over the Champlain Islands. They included the Erie Railroad, Grand Trunk Railroad, New York Central Railroad and the Michigan Central Railroad. Because railroad construction required numerous water crossings, bridge building transformed during the railroad decades from a trial-and-error craft into an engineering profession.

The Midwest Raleigh Steel Corporation received $125,000 for seven miles of "main line" track from Cass to Old Spruce and four miles of branch line from Old Spruce to Bald Knob. Secondly there was a need for stronger iron so boilers could create and withstand the pressure needed to drive steam locomotives. The effect of this publicity, with its repeated tellings and exaggerations of slave escapes, was to create an Underground Railroad legend that correctly represented a humanitarian ideal of the pre–Civil War period, but that strayed far from reality.

Louis to Keokuk, 163.73 miles, and from Cuivre Junction to St. Beautiful... [Glischinski] does a fine job of explaining the near death of railroads and how suddenly they’ve come back with new track and new methods of transportation. The end of track moved on to Hutchinson then followed the bend of the Arkansas River leaving Nickerson, Sterling City, Great Bend, Larned, and Kinsley strung behind. Over 75 washouts occurred with the biggest being a 100 foot section of track and also included part of the famed Weirs Beach Boardwalk which was swept away.
